Hi Dave,
I just started testing this out and am really enjoying it. I've encountered a weird bug when uploading to Flickr. The images are not being deleted from the my chosen directory and thus are posting to flickr over and over. Any suggestions or is this just a bug?

Hi, under FlickrFan prefs I checked the "limit the number of pictures in the screen saver folder" option, but when I look in my FlickFan screensaver folder I see that my pictures aren't limited to the amount I put in and the folder keep growing. Am I doing something wrong?

Could you start a google group and I'll link it into the page for the product so everyone can find it. I'll look into why some people aren't getting the AFP feed.

I've been looking at doing something like this on my own for a while, or a solution. Really cool to come across this on the TWIT episode.

But please, start a google group for discussion or something, this is too awesome for me to try to sift through the comments on this page.

1. OK...that's fixed...i don't know how i managed to muff that...but its fixed...
2. I'll let you know if any ideas come up...as a full back-u[ its nice to have all the files...its not a size thing, more a ease of use thing...its nice to be able to open a bunch of images from the same folder in a single click...having them segregated into little bundles makes this difficult...
3. I set 200 for pics in the screensaver folder (http://127.0.0.1:5337/photoFan/prefs?page=1.4). In that folder, there are two subfolders for the two feeds i have subscribed to (newswire & my flickr)...The newswire folder has had up to 600 pics in it and my flickr folder has zero pics in it.
3a) I also wanted an archive, and designated a drive/directory, but nothing has been written there yet...the folder exists, but nothing in it...

I don't have all the answers, but I have a few.

1. You need to go into Mac system prefs and point the screen saver at the screen saver folder. You currently have it set one level too "high.:

2. Yes, that is intended. I didn't know which sizes people would want so I just grab them all. If you have an idea what would work for everyone, let me know. Otherwise they don't take up very much space given that today's disks have tens of gigabytes of space...

3. Not sure what this means. Where did you set it to "stop at 200."

4. You have to go into the folder and delete the pics you don't want in the screen saver. I didn't want to delete the pictures by code, because deleting big pieces of data scares me. I'd rather let the user do it.

5. I don't understand.

6. Agree. I'll definitely do this.

Ive been running flickrfan for a few days now. a few observations:
1) it appears that thumbnails from my flickr are getting into the screensaver...which looks like large blobs of impressionistic madness blow up on a 23" cinema display. Is that possible?

2) the flickr archiving in the background is so far working very well...however, it is pulling over all the thmbnails etc. from each image...is that intended?

3) the newswire archive is now up to 400+ images even through I set it to stop at 200.

4) when i switch the feed (e.g., from just my photos >> my photos + api wire) it does not change. As of now, it is set to api wire only but is still showing only photos from my flickr...i just updated the code and will see if that fixes it...

5) If I clear out the photos in the phptofan/screensaverpics/apwirephotos photos, they all come back...is that the intended behavior? as per #3 above, it feels like this folder is getting really big...and I'm sick of some of the images...I like beig able to edit them out so i don't see disturbing/boring/georgebushisonmyscreenagain images...

6) I think you should put a link to this discussion board at the top of the flickrfan site...it is really hard to find!

a few more ideas...I like this app!

5) If you ever make a little desktop version it would be super cool if it i) displayed captions on photos, ii) enabled one to drag/drop/save the photo currently displayed, iii) enabled one to STOP on a photo and ENLARGE it to fulll res with right mouse click menu for closer examination (the screensaver sometimes moves away from a photo just when it catches my eye, or just when I'm really starting to dig it, or before it zooms back enough to see what the picture is about)...

6) The drop folder works great. This combined with the archive to desktop feature is a godsend (davesend ;-) ) It could include two really nice additions (but these unfortunately turn it into a little app - but if combined with the "desktop viewer" (above) would be super-cool: i) enable a dropped photo to be sent straight to a specific set (a la the flickr uploader), ii) enable dragging onto a special buddylist...you enter names and emails into this buddy list (V 2.0 would enable making little groups) and if you drag a photo onto the name, it gets sent to the users email box instantly - or even better, if they have this app, it gets sent to their mini-viewer - so: if i drag a photo on DaveW, you get it. If i drag it onto flickr, flickr gets it, if i drag it onto a set in flickr, that set gets it, if i drag it onto a group of buddies called "familySF" or "friends-work" all the people on that send-list get it...PhotoCasting...

I second Steven's thought below: enabling this to run outside of the default screen saver. I'd love to see it run in a separate window that I can view during my workday. I have a two monitor setup with my MBP and I never hook it up to my 60-inch HDTV. Although after seeing this work, I just might. ;)

a final idea for he moment:

4) enable this app to run in something other than the screen saver! I would love to see the feed all the time in a little window somewhere on my desktop (I realized this by leaving the finder/screensaver window open in test mode -- and it runs the feed...which is really cool...The settings I'd love would be, "Show feed in: screensaver | feedviewer | both."

great app Dave! Thanks! ideas:
1) enable me to set a % priority for different feeds (e.g., 50% my phoptos, 20% api wire, 30% friends)...
2) enable me to designate which drive the flickr backups will record to...my flickr has 15,000+ images and won;t fit on my c-drive...
3) enable me to designate a directory on flickr (set or collection) to pull from...so for instance, i could set up my mom's computer to only pull from my "family" collections which is all she wants to see...

Dave, it looks like a neat program:-)

I have the same problem as Kevin. Only the AP photos download. There is a file created in the ...pictures/photoFan/ directory for a feed to my account but nothing downloads to it. The feed is listed on the feeds page, the check box is checked, and it says there are 36 pictures in the feed but nothing downloaded. What am I missing?

I've got filevault on my machine. When I start OPML Editor, I get an error saying 'The file "Users" wasn't found'. Seems to be the same error..

Hi Dave,
Only the AP photos feed and populate my Pictures:PhotoFan:screenSaverPics folder; pictures from my own flickr account (which I authorized) and friends do not download and display. What should I check? Is there a way to manually "force" a feed download? I've also checked and unchecked each of the feeds (including AP) a couple of times and saved the settings.
